Distinguished Fellow, INSEAD; Global Leadership Fellow, Cornell University
Professor Marcos Troyjo is a Distinguished Fellow at INSEAD, a Global Leadership Fellow at Cornell University, and a former Transformational Leadership Fellow at the University of Oxford. He will be the Robert E. Wilhelm Fellow at the Center on International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as of September 2026.
Professor Troyjo played key leadership roles in multilateral finance, government, business, academia, and the public debate on economic development. He served as Brazil’s Deputy Economy Minister and Special Secretary for Foreign Trade & International Affairs and was one of the leading negotiators of the European Union-Mercosur Agreement. Professor Troyjo was President of the New Development Bank (NDB) — and the first westerner to lead a multilateral organization headquartered in Asia. He co-founded and was co-director of the BRICLab at Columbia | SIPA, where he taught international economics.
Professor Troyjo is a Global Advisor of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and a member of management or advisory Boards of Inditex, Minerva Foods, União Química, Bosch, and Global Neighbours.
An economist, political scientist, and diplomat, he holds a Master’s and a PhD in international relations from the University of São Paulo and pursued postdoctoral studies at Columbia University. Professor Troyjo has authored books on development, technology, and global affairs.
