Beware of Scams Implying Association with the United Nations Foundation

The United Nations Foundation is aware of fraudulent correspondence circulating via email, text message, social media, and other channels falsely claiming to be from, or associated with, the Foundation and/or its staff. These messages, which may attempt to obtain money, personal details, or other information from recipients, are not authorized or connected with the Foundation in any way. They often attempt to create a sense of urgency and ask for immediate help, confidential information, or assistance with purchases.

In some cases, scammers request gift cards, wire transfers, or personal details, falsely claiming the request is part of official foundation business. Other fraudulent messages may promise lottery winnings, fake grants, or investment opportunities that have no connection to the United Nations Foundation. Scammers may also reference other organizations or Foundation employees to appear credible.

The United Nations Foundation wishes to alert the public to these activities and to clarify how the Foundation operates:

  • The United Nations Foundation does not award unsolicited grants, prizes, or funds.
  • The Foundation does not request fees or payments for partnership or for its career application processes.
  • The Foundation does not request personal financial information unrelated to its official activities, such as bank account or credit card details, via email, text, or social media.
  • The Foundation does not endorse or participate in lotteries, investment schemes, or fundraising campaigns promising financial returns or rewards.
  • All official Foundation communications will come from verified @unfoundation.org email addresses or through our official website.

Recipients of suspicious messages claiming association with the United Nations Foundation are strongly advised not to respond, not to send money or personal information, and to exercise extreme caution.

The United Nations Foundation reports fraudulent activities to appropriate law enforcement and cybercrime authorities, including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Victims of such scams may also report to their local law enforcement authorities for appropriate action.
