Simon Walmsley

Senior Director for Ocean and Climate

Simon Walmsley is Senior Director for Ocean and Climate at the United Nations Foundation.

Previously, Simon worked at the World Wildlife Fund for over 25 years, during which time he held a number of senior positions including Head of the WWF-UK Marine Program, Chief Marine Advisor at the WWF-UK, Senior Advisor on Sustainable Development for the WWF International Arctic Program, and Marine Manager at WWF-International specializing in ocean governance, climate, extractive industries, and shipping.

Prior to WWF, he worked at the British Antarctic Survey, the Institute of Coastal and Estuarine Studies, Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs in the UK, and at the University of the West Indies.

Simon is a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Marine Scientist, Fellow of IMarEST, and Associate Member of IEMA. He earned his PhD at Hull University in Marine Biomonitoring and Ecotoxicology, where his research focused on biomonitoring tools such as indicator species and the genetics of pollutant-tolerant marine populations.
