Senior Fellow
Renata Dwan is a senior fellow where she leads work on the future of multilateralism and contributes to the Foundation’s initiatives on peace and security and advanced technologies. She brings more than 25 years of experience in multilateral diplomacy, international peace operations, and arms control, including at the United Nations.
As Director of the UN Institute for Disarmament Research, Renata pioneered nuclear risk reduction dialogues and launched programs on science and technology. She was Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology and led support to negotiation of the 2024 Global Digital Compact.
As Chief of UN peacekeeping policy and best practices, she drove major cross-system reform initiatives and served in UN operations in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Mali, and Syria. She has also advised the European Union on crisis management.
Renata was previously Deputy Director of Chatham House, where she oversaw the institute’s research agenda and programs. She led Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s work on armed conflict and the Simon Institute for Longterm Governance’s tech diplomacy program. She holds a D.Phil, M.Phil, and B.A. from the University of Oxford, where she was Hedley Bull Research Fellow in International Relations and a Fulbright Scholar.
