Live Below the Line is a great concept, and I’m glad to participate this week to support the Shot@Life Campaign. Think of it this way. Live Below the Line participants spend $7.50 total to eat and drink for five days. My grocery basket on Sunday night was filled with a loaf of inexpensive bread, peanut butter, two bananas, two boxes of pasta and a (half-priced) dented can of peas.
But Live Below the Line isn’t really about getting me to eat less (which is sorely needed). Rather, it’s a good way to remind ourselves, and educate our friends and family, that more than 1.4 billion people live on less than $1.50 per day. And when you’re living on $1.50 a day, you don’t have money for things we take for granted here in the U.S. – like lifesaving vaccines for our kids.
So as a proud papa who was able to vaccinate his kids against such childhood killers as the measles, I’m using my “money saved” this week to support the Shot@Life Campaign. I hope we can count on your support, including by contacting your Member of Congress to support full funding for childhood immunization in the developing world.
Keep up with my thoughts and progress as I live below the line through @shotatlife, @yoyoyeo2 and on Facebook. Are you up for the challenge? Sign up for Live Below the Line with Shot@Life!
