Today, the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, is the perfect time to echo Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) – a champion of a strong U.S.-UN relationship for over 25 years – in saying:

“Thank you to the all the peacekeepers – those who have gone and stood in our stead, trying to keep peace around the world.”

If you missed the rest of his Capitol Hill speech last week, don’t worry – we caught the whole thing on tape! Watch it now:

Then join him in thanking these brave men and women who risk their lives to make the world a safer place.

In addition to letting those on the frontlines of keeping peace worldwide know their work is appreciated, your support matters because the U.S. cannot promote international security alone, and it shouldn’t have to.

UN peacekeeping draws on the economic and human resources of UN Member States to protect our foreign policy interests and promote peace, and U.S. support is a critical part of keeping the 15 current missions around the world fully funded and operational.

So let’s show leaders in Congress and the administration that we stand with the 120,000 brave men and women in blue helmets – I can’t think of a better day to do it.
