Vice President of Global Health Strategy
Dr. Ahmed Ogwell is Vice President of Global Health Strategy at the UN Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation, he served as Deputy Director General at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), where he led program strategy and delivery. At Africa CDC, he also served as the inaugural Deputy Director and then Acting Director, leading Africa’s complex and successful response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously, Ahmed worked for nearly a decade with the World Health Organization at both its headquarters and the regional office for Africa. At country level, he held senior positions at the Ministry of Health of Kenya, where he established departments for non-communicable diseases and international health relations.
Dr. Ahmed is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi and the Centre for International Health at the University of Bergen in Norway.
