The UN Foundation hosted a press fellowship to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) focused on polio eradication and related public health services, such as immunization and disease surveillance. The fellowship was strategically timed in advance of the pledging moment for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) at the 2022 World Health Summit in October 2022 to increase media coverage of polio in key donor markets. Five journalists participated in the fellowship, which afforded them firsthand experience on the frontlines of global efforts to eradicate polio and expand immunization access and uptake in the DRC.
