The UN Foundation today announced a new partnership with Charity Miles, a free smartphone app which allows anyone to earn money for charity for every mile they walk, run, or bike. The user can choose to support one of 17 charities on the app, and a group of sponsors will donate 25 cents for every mile walked or run, and 10 cents for every mile biked, to the chosen charity. Together, the organizations are launching the first-ever #VDay10k, to raise $10k charity in February.
“We don’t want people to open their wallets, just tie up their sneakers,” said Charity Miles’ founder Gene Gurkoff. “Charity Miles is excited to partner with the UN Foundation and its campaigns to encourage even more people to take small steps to make a big impact.”
The #Vday10k is a first-of-its-kind event that will rally supporters across the country to raise money for their favorite charities. “UN Foundation supporters are well-informed and passionate about addressing the problems faced by families around the world. The Charity Miles app now allows them to get out and walk the walk,” said Aaron Sherinian, the UN Foundation’s Vice President of Public Affairs. “Within minutes, anyone can download the app and start earning money for a good cause.”

About the United Nations Foundation
The United Nations Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. We build and implement public/private partnerships to address the world’s most pressing problems, and work to broaden support for the UN through advocacy and public outreach. Through our campaigns and partnerships, we connect people, ideas, and resources to help the UN solve global problems. The campaigns we conduct reduce child mortality, empower women and girls, create a new energy future, secure peace and human rights, and promote technology innovation to improve health outcomes.
