UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel Report is a Bold and Inspired Step Toward A Better World

United Nations Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin issued the following statement today on the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel’s report on the Post-2015 Development Agenda:

“The United Nations Foundation welcomes the report of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda – a particularly significant and bold contribution to the development of a new framework to succeed the Millennium Development Goals.

“We congratulate the panel’s co-chairs, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, and Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom, as well as their fellow panel members, for the dedication, commitment, and leadership they have brought to the process, which included meetings in the countries of each co-chair, input from thousands of different global, regional, and national organizations, and engagement from citizens around the world.

“This significant outreach effort of the High-Level Panel is reflected in its report, which promotes substantial new ideas designed to inform the next stage of global development.  This report is an especially useful and informative resource for UN Member States, who will ultimately determine any successor to the MDGs.

“The MDGs have succeeded in galvanizing action to address poverty and human development needs, but more work remains to be done.  At the same time the post-2015 process continues, we must accelerate every effort toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals.  As we countdown the last 1,000 days of the MDG timeline, the UN Foundation will continue to support outreach and engagement on post-2015 and will work with the United Nations and leaders from every sector to continue the #MDGMomentum.
