UN Foundation President & CEO Kathy Calvin on UN Secretary-General’s Synthesis Report on Post-2015 Agenda: A Pivotal Opportunity for People and Planet

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today released his synthesis report on the post-2015 agenda, “ The Road to Dignity by 2030: Ending Poverty, Transforming All Lives and Protecting the Planet .” The report synthesizes the range of inputs on the post-2015 agenda from inclusive global consultations with member states, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and citizens. The report provides six elements “to frameand reinforce the sustainable development agenda: dignity; people; prosperity; planet; justice; and partnership.” United Nations Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin highlighted the importance of the report, saying:

“The United Nations Secretary-General’s report is a critical step in the Post-2015 process and proposes six important elements that can provide a framework for the next agenda. The report welcomes and builds on the outcome document prepared by the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, which outlined a set of goals and targets as part of a global agenda for our world through 2030. Formal inter-governmental negotiations are set to begin in January and will conclude with a high-level summit to adopt the Post-2015 agenda in September 2015.

“As the Secretary-General notes in the report, 2015 is a pivotal opportunity to come together for people and the planet. Today’s report gives us a path to address a more comprehensive set of issues including inequality, environmental sustainability, and climate, while working to finish the job of the Millennium Development Goals.

“As the report shows, we can scale up our efforts to end poverty, fight inequality, protect our planet, and promote prosperity and justice for all people.”
