UN Foundation Announces Press Fellowship to Indonesia with Focus on Women’s Health and Rights

The United Nations Foundation today announced a global issues fellowship focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights in Indonesia for a select group of U.S.-based journalists during the week of November 9, 2015. Journalists will visit a number of sites in the various provinces of Indonesia, and attend the International Conference on Family Planning in Bali.

In close coordination with UNFPA and other UN agencies, government ministries and other partners with in-country expertise, the fellowship will offer unparalleled, direct access to hear stories from health workers, health experts and government officials. Journalists will have the opportunity to hear from leaders in the field at the International Conference on Family Planning, observe family planning campaigns, youth-related programming, and maternal health initiatives, and hear personal stories directly from girls, women and their families.

“As an emerging economy with the third largest youth population in the world, Indonesia provides a fascinating case study on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Family planning has been a key priority of the Indonesian government, and this fellowship will provide journalists with the opportunity to explore how that has impacted families and communities, the complex challenges that remain, and the innovative solutions to further strengthen reproductive health,” said Seema Jalan, Senior Director of the Universal Access Project.

This fellowship is intended for U.S.-based journalists who do not have regular access to key experts in Indonesia, but are interested in sexual and reproductive health, international development, and the United Nations. Special consideration will be given to journalists whose portfolios include global health or foreign affairs.
