The United Nations Foundation and Talkers Magazine today launched the third annual “Talk Radio Day at the UN.” More than a dozen talk radio show hosts from across the United States will be airing their shows, both local and nationally syndicated, live from the United Nations’ headquarters in New York. The hosts will be interviewing representatives from key UN agencies around the world to offer listeners first-hand accounts about the valuable work of the United Nations.
“Whether it is delivering aid to victims of the devastation in Myanmar or China, helping protect the peace in Darfur, or guiding the world towards a consensus agreement on climate change, the UN is there, everyday,” said Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation. “We are excited to continue this innovative partnership that helps the American public learn more about the extraordinary work the UN does, on the ground, to save lives and promote a better world.”
“Millions of listeners will hear, and for the first time be able to watch via the web, the voices of the UN describing their work around the globe,” said Michael Harris, publisher of Talkers Magazine. “Talk radio, and its dedicated community of listeners, will have a unique opportunity to get inside and talk to the men and women who are the UN.”
The talk radio hosts will be on the air live from the United Nations today from 5:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., offering millions of Americans the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day operations of the international organization. They will discuss topics ranging from combating measles, to peacekeeping missions in Africa. Several UN guests will focus on the UN’s role in efforts to combat and manage climate change, a particularly appropriate topic since June 5, 2008 is World Environment Day.
Among the talk radio hosts participating are: Gary Baumgarten, Paltalk; Alan Colmes, Fox News Radio; Sam Greenfield, WVNJ 1160, New Jersey; Thom Hartman, KPOJ, Portland, OR; Joe Madison, WOL, Washington, DC, and XM Satellite Radio; Steve Malzberg, WOR Radio Network, New York; Carol Marks, ABC Satellite Services; Ken Pittman, WBSM AM 1420, Southern Massachusetts; Jack Rice, WCCO, Minneapolis, MN and CBS Radio Network; Reverend Al Sharpton, Syndication One; Doug Stephan, Radio America and Westwood One; Alan Stock, KXNT, Las Vegas; and hosts from The Real News and the Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network (HITN).
