The United Nations Foundation Selected to Host The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data

The Interim Steering Group of the recently launched Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (the Global Partnership) is pleased to announce that it has unanimously selected the United Nations Foundation (UN Foundation) to serve as its host organization.

Professor Sanjeev Khagram, Coordinator of the Global Partnership said, “The Interim Steering Group of Anchor Partners unanimously selected the UN Foundation because of its tremendous capacity, wealth of experience and integrity. The Global Partnership looks forward to a positive relationship with the UN Foundation because it is deeply committed to helping achieve the bold vision of the Partnership while ensuring its independence during this exciting next phase.”

The UN Foundation was chosen to be the institutional host following a transparent and rigorous selection process and approval by the Global Partnership’s Interim Steering Group, which sets the overall strategic direction and oversight of the Partnership. The Foundation was selected for its institutional capacities and successful experience hosting several other independent multi-stakeholder initiatives. The selection was made for a period of three years, after which the Partnership’s governing body will determine the path forward.

“Reliable and accurate data is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals over the next fifteen years,” said Kathy Calvin, President & CEO of the United Nations Foundation. “Strengthening data — the root of the Global Partnership’s mission — requires input and action across sectors. Through the work of the Global Partnership, we will help ensure availability of data to focus efforts to end poverty and improve lives.”

Launched at the United Nations this September by over 70 leaders from across sectors and around the world, the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data aims to harness the data revolution to fill critical data gaps and ensure data is more open and useable to end extreme poverty, combat climate change, and ensure a healthy life for all. The Global Partnership has already generated over 120 actions globally to help drive achievement of the new SDGs.
