Statement from United Nations Foundation Founder and Chairman Ted Turner on International Women’s Day

Today, on International Women’s Day, the world celebrates the social, economic and political achievements of women around the world. In honor of the occasion, United Nations Foundation Founder and Chairman Ted Turner issued the following statement:

“As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, it is important that we use our collective voice to keep women and adolescent girls at the top of the international agenda. Supporting women and girls is essential to tackling the world’s toughest problems. Since I created the UN Foundation more than a decade ago, one of our main priorities has been helping the United Nations promote gender equality and empower women and girls.

“Improving maternal and child health, educating girls, and empowering women are some of the best investments we can make. When a girl is educated, healthy, skilled, and empowered, she is more likely to invest in her family and community. When that pattern is repeated throughout the world, we collectively build a better future.
