Moms +SocialGood concludes the second annual Global Moms Relay, a movement of moms and their friends from around the world sharing stories of motherhood to help women and children lead happier, healthier lives.

New York, NY (May 7, 2014) — Today, in honor of Mother’s Day, luminaries including actress and philanthropist Olivia Wilde, author and activist Elizabeth Smart, cookbook author, actress, model and TV host Padma Lakshmi, Ambassador Samantha Power, ABC News anchor Amy Robach, Her Royal Highness Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan and mothers from all over the world will take part in Moms +SocialGood, the only one-day event that brings together moms who are making a difference through social media, technology and philanthropy together with the purpose of improving the health and wellbeing of women and children everywhere. The event, hosted by the United Nations Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, BabyCenterTM, the Huffington Post, and the 92Y, will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at the Paley Center for Media in New York City.

“The Global Moms Relay and Moms +SocialGood reinforce the fact that moms are critical to creating change and a better future for their families, and families globally,” said Sarah Colamarino, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Johnson and Johnson. “From the Relay, we have heard so many stories from passionate moms who are committed to amplifying issues and actions being taken for mothers, children and girls around the world.”

Hundreds of the brightest and most passionate people working to improve child, maternal and reproductive health will gather in New York City and thousands more will join online via Livestream to share ideas, raise awareness and inspire action. Leading moms who are active online and dedicated to helping families around the world to achieve health and happiness for their children will be participating in the event to share their inspirational stories and ignite real change.

“From Sri Lanka to South Dakota, moms have used their voices both online and offline to share inspirational stories to create meaningful change for women and children around the world,” said Aaron Sherinian, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations at the UN Foundation. “This group of mothers – from diplomats to digital moms – has created a community of champions for maternal and child health issues in support of the United Nations’ Every Woman Every Child movement.”

Moms +SocialGood is the culminating event of the Global Mom Relay, a 60-day online conversation connecting moms and experts around the world to share their personal experiences, stories about motherhood and global causes they care about. So far more than 275,000 social media actions have been taken. Each action has resulted in a $1 donation (up to $275,000) to one of three campaigns to boost health and happiness for moms and children around the world. The Global Moms Relay and Moms +SocialGood are in support of the United Nations’ Every Woman Every Child initiative.

About The Global Moms Relay

The Global Moms Relay is a digital dialogue between moms to inspire action to help improve the lives of mothers and children everywhere. The second annual relay was created by the United Nations Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, BabyCenter and The Huffington Post and culminates on May 11, 2014 in honor of Mother’s Day. HOW IT WORKS: Each day a celebrity or community leader shares a personal story of how a mother has changed his or her life, and then “passes the baton” to the next contributor. You share, they give: each time you share one of these posts via social media, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 (per action), up to $275,000, to help improve the health and wellbeing of moms and kids worldwide through MAMA, Shot@Life, and Girl Up. You could also Donate A Photo* through the app for iOS and Android, and Johnson & Johnson will give $1, up to $100,000, when you upload a photo for Girl Up or Shot@Life.* For more information, visit www.GlobalMomsRelay.org.

* Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation.
