On the eve of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) the UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (IE SOGI) will launch a statement urging States and other stakeholders to urgently take into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse (LGBT) persons when designing, implementing and evaluating the measures to combat the pandemic.
During ten days in April and May, the Mandate conducted online consultation meetings in a town hall format, with ample participation of civil society representatives, including over 400 people from all regions of the world. The input collected was the basis to draft the Mandate’s 2020 IDAHOBIT statement, shedding light on the different implications of the current pandemic on the LGBT community.
