Should internet access be free for everyone? Maybe. But it’s complicated. There are approximately 3 billion people, nearly half the world’s population, who lack reliable, affordable access to the internet. The experience of the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the chasm growing between connected and unconnected populations — in wealthy nations like the U.S. and in the developing world. All agree this is a problem, but the debate begins when viable solutions are discussed and implemented.
