On Friday, September 25, representatives from 193 countries will gather at the United Nations to formally adopt the next set of global goals, known as the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to end extreme poverty, protect the planet, and improve the lives of billions of people across the globe.
One way to make sure these goals move from words to action is to tell the world about them. The evening before the goals are adopted, the United Nations Foundation, working along with the United Nations, action/2015, and many other supporting organizations will gather Under One Sky. The journey begins with an event in Australia and moves across more than 70 countries — from India and South Africa to the UK and Brazil.
Together — with flashlights, candles, cellphones, and more — there will be a global movement to #LightTheWay toward a better future. The light seen around the world will lead up to New York, where world leaders will be in town. On Thursday, September 24, at 6 p.m. ET at One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in New York City, where global citizens will gather for a light show in honor of this historic moment.
Want to take part? Come to the New York City event on Thursday, September 24 — or join an Under One Sky event near you.
Share your pictures and tell everyone on social media with #LightTheWay. Together, we can make sure everyone knows about the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development!
