This year, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, the UN Foundation has joined a host of great partners who are helping to launch a new movement called #GivingTuesday – a day to celebrate giving and encourage more, better and smarter giving during the Holiday Season.
People everywhere including retailers, charities, online organizations, community centers, individuals, families and more will come together with one common purpose — to help others and to celebrate the great American spirit of contribution.
#GivingTuesday is not a new giving platform, but a call to action and an organizing principle to encourage the creativity and energy of Americans to work together for good. While Black Friday provides the perfect day for in-store shopping and Cyber Monday provides the perfect platform for online shopping, leading up to November, the #GivingTuesday campaign will provide the resources for you to contribute to your community and the world in order to give or buy the perfect “Giving Gift” on behalf of someone you know.
You can join the #GivingTuesday movement by committing to give back to your favorite charity on Nov. 27, 2012, or participate in one of the many #GivingTuesday partner initiatives. Details about partner initiatives, how to become a Social Media Ambassador and for ideas on creating individual #GivingTuesday events are available at the #GivingTuesday website and Facebook page. Follow @GivingTues and use the #GivingTuesday hashtag to share why the movement matters, highlight successes and celebrate giving.
You can help spread the word about the movement by sharing #GivingTuesday with your organizations, communities and friends.
Today we invite you to be part of this national celebration of our great tradition of generosity. #GivingTuesday will show how Americans can do much more with our wallets than just consume. Your participation will help make this season the biggest giving season yet! And show that Americans give as good as they get.
