Worldwide – from Syria to South Sudan to Central African Republic and too many other places – more than 45 million people have been forced to leave everything they know and flee their homes because of conflict or disaster.

It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of this crisis – but as we approach World Refugee Day on June 20, it’s time to remember that we can make a difference for those who need it most. The United Nations is working around the world to provide life-saving aid to refugees. Here are two ways you can help RIGHT NOW:

1. Raise awareness. Refugee stories don’t always lead the news, but we need to raise awareness and support for people displaced by conflict and disaster. Use your voice to show your friends, family, and leaders that you care about helping refugees. As the UN Refugee Agency says, “This is the most urgent story of our time.”

2. Donate. Every dollar makes a difference. Support the UN Refugee Agency by visiting unhcr.org. You can also donate to USA for UNHCR.

When I think about the challenges we face, a quote from Fred Rogers comes to mind: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

Join us today, and help the UN help refugees.
