Senior Director for Ocean and Climate

Simon Walmsley is the Senior Director for Ocean and Climate at the United Nations Foundation. He previously worked at the World Wildlife Fund for more than 25 years, during which time he held a number of senior positions including Head of the WWF-UK marine programme, Chief Marine Advisor WWF-UK, Senior Advisor on Sustainable development for the WWF International Arctic Programme, and Marine Manager at WWF-International specializing in ocean governance, climate, extractive industries, and shipping. He has also worked at the British Antarctic Survey, the Institute of Coastal and Estuarine Studies, Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs in the UK, and at the University of the West Indies. Simon is a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Marine Scientist, Fellow of IMarEST, and Associate Member of IEMA. He earned his PhD at Hull University in Marine Biomonitoring and Ecotoxicology, where his research focused on biomonitoring tools such as indicator species and the genetics of pollutant-tolerant marine populations.
