The UN Foundation began a blog ad campaign to support the United Nation’s renewed “Global Fight Against Terrorism,” which urges member states to work together to stop international terrorists. Yesterday, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan launched the fight at an international conference in Madrid to mark the one-year anniversary of the terrorist bombing of the commuter train in Madrid that killed 191 people. In his speech, the Secretary-General outlined what he called a “comprehensive strategy” to fight terrorism globally.

The UN Foundation also dedicated space on its website to educate the public about the UN’s role in the battle against terrorism explaining the work of the UN Counterterrorism Program and Committee. The Secretary-General’s speech can also be found on the site. (http://www.unfoundation.org/features/terrorism.asp)

The UN Foundation was created in 1998 with businessman and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support United Nations’ causes. The UN Foundation promotes a more peaceful, prosperous, and just world through the support of the UN. Through its grant making and by building new and innovative public-private partnerships, the UN Foundation acts to meet the most pressing health, humanitarian, socioeconomic, and environmental challenges of the 21st century.
