Today, visitors to AOL.com’s home page were greeted with a link to the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets–a global, grassroots campaign to raise awareness and funding to combat malaria in Africa. AOL.com’s efforts helped spread the buzz about Nothing But Nets to people around the world by providing its 15 million daily users a link to more information and ways to get involved in the fight to end one of the largest killers of children in Africa.

Malaria kills nearly 1 million people each year, 90 percent of them in Africa. It is a leading killer of children on the continent, taking the life of a child every 45 seconds. Bed nets help prevent malaria transmission by protecting families while they sleep at night, when the vast majority of transmissions occur.
$10 can purchase a net, distribute it to a family, and educate communities on its importance and use. To date, Nothing But Nets has raised more than $33 million and distributed more than 3.5 million nets to families in 25 countries throughout Africa.
