On September 18, 1997, businessman and philanthropist Ted Turner announced a generous and historic gift of $1 billion in support of United Nations causes. This gift supports the United Nations in achieving the goals and objectives of the UN Charter, and encourages greater understanding of the promise and purpose of international cooperation through the United Nations.

In making his pledge to support UN causes by creating the UN Foundation, Mr. Turner also strongly encouraged others to engage in a new spirit of philanthropy aimed at creating a better world. And he promised to utilize the UN Foundation to help foster a new spirit of philanthropy throughout the world.

Meeting the global challenges of an interdependent age requires that all of us become involved in supporting UN causes.
